Highlights include:
Barracuda (Offshore Brazil) – Onstream since 1997, the main reservoir, Upper Oligocene Marlim-10, has a STOIIP of 1679 MMBO and an EUR of 397 MMBO for a recovery factor of 23.6%. Heavy oil (26 °API) is trapped mainly by lateral depositional pinch-out within channel fills. The unconsolidated deepwater turbidite sandstones have an average porosity of 30% and a permeability of 1000 mD. Production was by continuous water injection aided by gas lift and mostly through horizontal wells.
Mamontovo Field (Russia) – New report – This field was discovered in 1965 and began production in 1970 from the main BC10 reservoir (8.5 BBO STOIIP and 3.9 BBO EUR, 46% recovery factor). An 85 m oil column is trapped in a basement uplift anticline. The ~50 m-thick reservoir comprises distributary-channel and mouth-bar sandstones with 21% porosity and 135 mD permeability. The 30 °API oil is produced by moderate aquifer supplemented by waterflood and artificial lift. Assisted by infill drilling, water-plugging, fracturing and sidetracking, a peak rate of >552,000 BOPD was achieved in 1985. By 2015, the BC10 reservoir had produced 3.4 BBO.
North Field-South Pars Field (Iran-Qatar) – The largest single gas accumulation in the world containing a GIIP of ~1800 TCF, CIIP of 50 BBC with EUR of 1260 TCF in a 9700 km2 domal anticline, split between the North Field in Qatar and the South Pars Field in Iran. Discovered in 1971, this field came onto production in 1991 in the Qatari sector, and 2002 in Iran. Production is from ~1400 ft-thick Khuff limestones which comprise platform-interior oolitic, peloidal and oncoidal grainstones and packstones which formed as shoals and sand waves. At its peak, production reached 46,900 MMCF/day in 2023 with South Pars exceeding North Field. Multiple development phases included deviated monobore, optimized ‘big bore’ and horizontal wells, acid stimulation and managed-pressure drilling. Cumulative production currently stands at 200 TCF.
Patujusal (Bolivia) – Onstream since 1993, the field has a STOIIP of 53.8 MMBO and an EUR of 9.2 MMBO for a 17% recovery factor, occurring in the Oligocene Peteca sandstones deposited in an anastomosing fluvial system. Average reservoir porosity and permeability are 20.4% and 100 mD. Medium oil (32 °API) is trapped in an anticline by faulting, erosional truncation, and dip-closure. Production is mainly by aquifer drive aided by waterflooding, horizontal drilling, and gas lift.
P18 (Offshore Netherlands) – New report – The P18 gas field in the West Netherlands Basin ceased production in 2022 after having produced a cumulative 486 BCF with a recovery factor of 97% from seven producers, some of which were sidetracked. The trap consists of three main tilted fault-blocks which contained gas columns of 157-505 m within the Lower Triassic Lower Germanic Trias Group braided fluvial and aeolian reservoirs. In 2013 a CO2 storage permit was issued and the field could potentially store 40 MMt of CO2 within the heterogeneous reservoirs with variable N:G ratio of 0.55-0.96 and average porosity and permeability of 10% and 100 mD.
Sukowati Field (Indonesia) – New report – S. A 700 ft oil column with a STOIIP of 308 MMBO and EUR of 157 MMBO (51% recovery factor) is trapped in an isolated, 2000 ft-high carbonate buildup. The 300 ft-thick net pay is developed in a 780 ft-gross reservoir comprising fore-reef grainstones and packstones alternating with tight inter-reef wackestones with an average porosity of 20% and permeability of 156 mD. Production of the 39 °API oil commenced in 2004 under strong aquifer drive, peaking at 45,000 BOPD in 2011. Acid fracturing proved effective in draining oil from low-perm intervals. By 2019, cumulative production had reached 123 MMBO.
