This release expands DAKS’ growing collection of global EOR case studies, providing valuable technical insights into pilot and fieldwide applications across a range of recovery methods, including in-situ combustion, CO₂ water-alternating-gas immiscible injection, polymer flooding, and miscible gas flooding.

Balaria Field (Romania)
Block III Five-Pattern Pilot – In-Situ Combustion
This thermal EOR pilot targeted a heavy oil reservoir with a viscosity of 120 cP and delivered an incremental recovery factor of 23%, achieving an air utilization of 14.2 MCF/BO and a maximum water-cut reduction of 25.9%. Initially launched to generate data for a potential fieldwide ISC development, the project successfully demonstrated that the Sa3 reservoir was a strong candidate for in-situ combustion. Following the pilot’s success, the development was expanded to include six additional patterns. Comprehensive performance monitoring, including production and injection rates, pressure measurements, and downhole and wellhead temperature surveillance, played a key role in the project’s success.
Dulang Field (Malaysia)
Block South 3 Pilot – CO₂ WAG Immiscible Flood
The Dulang Field pilot successfully met all project objectives and demonstrated that CO₂ Water-Alternating-Gas Immiscible (IWAG) flooding is a viable EOR option for offshore Malaysian reservoirs. The project is expected to achieve an ultimate incremental recovery factor of 6.2%, with a CO₂ utilization of 3.88 MCF/BO. Key recovery mechanisms included up-dip attic oil drainage and improved reservoir sweep efficiency within the E12/13 sands. Extensive surveillance activities, including pressure-transient testing, quarterly fluid sampling, and tracer surveys, supported ongoing evaluation of project performance.
Milne Point Field (USA)
Fieldwide Application – Polymer Flood
This fieldwide polymer flood project represents a significant EOR success story, with an expected incremental recovery factor of 18.4% above waterflood performance, contributing to an overall ultimate recovery factor of 47.1%. The initial J-pad NB sand pilot achieved a 13% incremental recovery while maintaining a highly efficient polymer utilization of 0.77 kg/BO. Success was driven by a structured development approach that progressed from laboratory testing and pilot implementation to full field deployment. Extensive laboratory studies, reservoir simulation, polymer quality control programmes, injection diagnostic analysis, and produced polymer monitoring all contributed to the successful scale-up of the technology.
Zarzaitine Field (Algeria)
IA Sector Pilot – Enriched Hydrocarbon Miscible Flood
This enriched hydrocarbon gas miscible flood pilot achieved an incremental recovery factor of 8.9% and reduced water cut by as much as 44%. During the project, 0.202 BCF of enriched hydrocarbon gas (0.81 HCPV) was injected, resulting in a gross gas utilization of 6.2 MCF/BO and an estimated 27 MBO incremental EUR per well. Extensive laboratory testing supported the design and implementation of the pilot, while detailed fluid property and compositional analyses helped identify gas channelling issues and optimize injection and production strategies.
