Who Are C&C Reservoirs?
The technical team at C&C Reservoirs includes seasoned geoscientists and reservoir engineers who have been reviewing and synthesizing geological, reservoir engineering and production data on the world’s most important fields and reservoirs since the mid-1990s. This covers every significant petroleum basin, play and reservoir type, development scenario, production challenge and IOR/EOR method around the world. Our mission is to provide the most comprehensive and high-quality analogue knowledge base to the upstream energy industry.
Leadership Team

Dr. Shaoqing Sun
Founder & Chief Geoscientist
Dr. S Qing Sun founded C&C Reservoirs in January 1995 where he currently holds the position of Chief Geoscientist. At its inception, the company had a vision to create a global analogue knowledge system that would help E&P companies to reduce their exploration risk, optimise their field development options and improve their reservoir management.
Before founding C&C Reservoirs, Dr. Sun was hired by Chevron as a consultant, assisting with their internal Global Carbonate Fields Database project from 1994-1995. From 1990-1994, Dr. Sun held Senior Geoscientist and project manager positions with Petroleum Information.
Dr. Sun received a PhD in Reservoir Geology from Reading University, UK and a BS in Petroleum Geology from Northeast Petroleum University, China.

Dr. David Pollitt
Director of Geoscience
David Pollitt is Director of Geoscience for C&C Reservoirs, a role he assumed in August 2019. Prior to this he was Exploration Advisor for Chevron Europe, Eurasia & Middle East E&P, based in London, England. In this role, he was responsible for functional leadership and guidance on the portfolio and capital allocation for Chevron’s exploration business within Europe, Eurasia and the Middle East, and was a member of Chevron’s Exploration Leadership Team.
During his career David has worked on projects throughout the E&P lifecycle in diverse parts of the world, including the continental US, the UK, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Russia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
David holds a BSc in Exploration and Resource Geology from Cardiff University (2004), a PhD in carbonate sedimentology and numerical modeling, also from Cardiff University (2008), and an MBA from Durham University (2019). He is a Chartered Geologist (UK) and Fellow of the Geological Society of London and a Member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists and the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain.

Rena Yan
Rena Yan joined C&C Reservoirs in 2001, initially involved in transferring DAKS from an Intranet system to a web-based Internet system, and was subsequently promoted to System Support Manager in 2002. In 2020 Rena was appointed as the Director of Administration & Customer Support.
Before joining C&C Reservoirs, Rena served as Regional Manager for China for Hong Kong Novel Industry Limited.
Rena received her BSc in Mathematics from Nankai University, China and received her MSc in Economics from Renmin University, China.

Adam Barnes
Adam Barnes joined C&C Reservoirs in February 2019 and was appointed as the Director of Finance. Adam is responsible for all finance related activities at the company, including financial, statutory and management reporting, audit, control, assurance, tax and treasury.
Prior to joining C&C Reservoirs, Adam enjoyed a 27-year career at BP, during which he worked in different finance roles, encompassing oil trading, upstream, downstream, Head Office and functional operations within BP. Adam’s last role at BP was leading the transformation of the UK Group Finance function, utilising the latest technology and modern ways of working to deliver efficient and cost-effective financial services to the BP Group.
Adam is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Karl Zachry
Karl Zachry joined the C&C Reservoirs in March 2015 as the Director of Technology. Karl is responsible for overseeing all software development as well as information technology.
Prior to joining C&C Reservoirs, Karl worked as Vice President of R&D at LMKR, Director of Software Development at Seismic Micro-Technology (purchased by IHS in 2011), Enterprise Architect for Software Development at Halliburton, and a wide variety of roles in Landmark Graphics from 1990 through 2005.
Karl received an MBA from University of Phoenix Online and a BSc in Geophysical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.

Dr. Shengyu Wu
Shengyu Wu is Senior Geoscience Adviser and Head of Analogue Solutions. He has been working for C&C Reservoirs focusing on applications of analogues in E&P workflow and decision process since 2003. Wu has provided analogue solutions in E&P and asset management worldwide including Mexico, Angola, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Russia, Italy, Mongolia, Morocco, USA, Ghana, Brazil, Colombia and China.
Prior to joining C&C Reservoirs, Shengyu worked for BGP supervising seismic data processing, Anschutz Exploration as Geoscientist and TOTAL USA as VP of Exploration respectively and founded Geosynthesis Int’l Inc. and YCOS Inc.
Dr. Wu received his Master and Ph.D. degrees in Geology and Geophysics from Rice University with a research focus on salt and shale tectonics and sequence stratigraphy in the Gulf of Mexico and Niger Delta. He has an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering with research focus on LANDSAT image classifications in 1982.

Jo Reader
Jo Reader joined C&C Reservoirs in 2015 as a Report Writer, becoming an Editor in 2018, and Team Leader and Senior Editor in 2021. Jo has played a key role in both writing and ensuring quality of reservoir evaluation reports and has also written many of our CCS reports.
Jo previously worked for BG Group for 16 years as an exploration geologist followed by three years at Salamander Energy and one year at Mubadala Petroleum. Jo has worked internationally across Singapore, Australia, the North Sea, Egypt, West Africa, Trinidad & Tobago, and China. This background has given Jo wide ranging technical experience from basin-scale projects to prospect generation and risk analysis and drilling operations.
Jo holds a BSc in Geology from the University of Bristol, and an MSc in Petroleum Geology from Imperial College, University of London. Jo is an active member of the Geological Society of London and the GESGB.

Dr. Xiaoguang Lu
Xiaoguang Lu is Chief Reservoir Engineer and joined C&C Reservoirs in 2008 working across both Beijing and Houston offices.
In 1988, Dr. Lu joined the Research Institute of Daqing Field and gained more than 10-year experience specialised in reservoir characterisation and IOR of giant multi-layer, waterflooded reservoirs. From 2002 -2008 Dr. Lu worked as Chief Development Geologist and Subsurface Manager for PetroChina. During 2002-2004, he also conducted part-time reservoir characterisation study in Beijing University and completed his post-doctoral report.
Dr. Lu Authored more than 80 papers, two monographs, and made over 30 presentations in various industry technical workshops, forums and conferences. Dr. Lu received a silver award of the Geological Society of China and special scientific award from China National Petroleum Company (CNPC) in 2001. He also won 15 first- and second-grade scientific innovation awards from subsidiary companies of PetroChina and Chinese Petroleum Society (CPS).

Dr. Rod Sloan
Rod Sloan joined C&C Reservoirs in 1997, becoming Technical Director in 2001, and grading from the position of Editor-in-Chief to Technical Advisor in 2026. He joined C&C Reservoirs to advance the use of global subsurface analogues in petroleum exploration and production. He has played key roles in helping to develop the DAKS geoscience and engineering classifications and in maintaining the technical excellence of C&C’s Reservoir Evaluation Reports.
Rod received a BSc in Geology from the University of Bristol in 1980 and an MSc in Mineral Exploration and Mining Geology from the University of Leicester in 1981, and then worked as a Mineral Explorationist with Billiton Exploration Ireland, before beginning his career in the petroleum industry in 1984, working as a logging engineer for Anadrill Schlumberger in the North Sea.
He then returned to academia to undertake a PhD in sedimentology and volcanology at the University of Bristol. From 1990 to 1994, Rod was employed as a clastic sedimentologist by GAPS Geological Consultants, London. Subsequently, he was Senior Geologist with Scott Pickford Group (1994-97), working in its regional studies, equity valuations and field development groups.

Vijay Ganesan
Product Manager & Business Development Manager (Asia-Pacific)
Vijaindran Ganesan (Vijay) joined C&C Reservoirs in October 2022. As Product Manager, Vijay leads product development for the Digital Analogue Knowledge System (DAKS™) from concept through to delivery. Working closely with technical and content teams, Vijay ensures product capabilities align with customer requirements, subsurface workflows, and evolving industry needs, while contributing to long-term product strategy.
In addition to his product responsibilities, Vijay remains actively engaged with customers, translating user needs into product enhancements and roadmap priorities.
Prior to joining C&C Reservoirs, Vijay worked in sales and technical roles across the Asia-Pacific region for various international service companies, supporting upstream operators on subsurface and digital solutions.
Vijay studied at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Geology.
